Good day
I'm new here and was wondering if you guys can help. Here it goes I'm considering getting myself a 2004 Toyota Hilux 3.0 kzte DC and was wondering if its a good move considering the age of should I just get myself a D4D. While we at it I'd like to know the typical service kits and estimate on a 2004 Toyota Hilux 3.0 kzte DC.

The KZ was a good bakkie in it's time, but I would bite the bullet and go for the D4D. It's better on fuel consumption than the KZ and also has more power. The KZ cylinder head is known to crack if it works too hard and overheats. Fitting an AMC head sorts that out, but it's still a cost that you could possibly encounter down the line with the KZ.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

I owned a 2004 KZ and the head went (due to a foot problem apparently) and a nice bakkie. I currently own a 2014 D4D and with the added power …… I would agree with Andy.

Don't know but if I recall correctly from a post a few years back, it was actually cheaper than the original from Toyota. Maybe phone around to see if they are still available and pricing.

I've replaced my head with an AMC @R8K instead of R12K from Toyota. 4 years later it still costed R8K (from another thread). Complete job was R13K. At that time, I replaced thermostat, head bolts, Madman EGT Guage etc. If you buy I would not do anything until you get problems. An EGT Guage is an advantage.Fourbou wrote:What will an AMC head cost?

I bought a new AMC head in September for a tad under R6k! It was the bare head and had the cams and valves built over for another R1.5k.
A complete head was either R12k or R16k.
Do buy a new head gasket from Toyota only!
Fit the 71 degree thermostat and have the radiator chemically cleaned.
Kz then to last another 500k kms!
