I really like that first picture of the beige vehicle. I tried to buy one three years ago in good condition there near Froll's valley. I think that it is yellow & still running & the othr one is running here near my valley, but much worse condition. Both owners declined to sell. It should be a 1600cc ldv. I wanted that as a Sunday run around.

Re: The Original Hilux
Those little Corona ½ tonners were popular, and they were pretty tough! I recall from many tears back, our neighbour on the Hogsback wanting to rebuild his garage with something more substantial and secure than wattle and daub. He wanted a brick structure, but the closest bricks were from Alice down in the valley and he needed 3000 bricks. He had this little old Corona bakkie which he used to haul them up the mountain in loads of 200 at a time, and there were no tar roads around there then. The road from Alice to the foot of the mountain was about 20km of rutted, corrugated, bumpy, winding road with countless ups and downs. The haul up the mountain pass was also not easy going but one of the worst sections was the deviation from the main road to his property. That old Corona bakkie did those 15 gruelling trips without skipping a beat or suffering any damage even though the heavily laden tail scraped along the ground in numerous places. It took 3 days, working from morning to night and I went along for the ride and to keep him company on a few of those hauls. I gained a lot of respect for the Toyota brand over those 3 days.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Re: The Original Hilux
My grand dad had a Corona bakkie. Used to love going around with him in it. It was sold to a family friend when he passed away in 1989. It was still running up until 5 years ago. Would love to buy it back as a long term restoration project.
My uncle also owned a Corona sedan, it was his daily driver and he loved it.

Those things are freaking strong! I saw an old stout in sandton last week. Still being used as a contractors bakkie and going strong!
