Re: Old oil
Here in Joburg most of the garden refuse sites (skips) have a container for used oil.
Just DO NOT chuck it down the drain....:)

Re: Old oil
If you don't have a use for it, drop it off at any service station. They have collection drums and the stuff is collected and recycled.

Re: Old oil
The safe recycling of old oil is managed nationaly by a company called "Rose Foundation"
Any workshop or company that needs to dispose of old oil can contact them, they will suply suitable containers and empty them regularly, we even get a few cents per liter (about R60.00 per 1000 liter).
You can empty your containers at most Garages and workshops or at the dumps.
Remember 1liter of oil can contaminate 1 milion liter water, scary fact!

Re: Old oil
As Hoppy said, any mechanical workshop would be able to help. I take mine to the local mechanics and they do not mind at all.

If you have wooden fencing, outside wood products, wendy huts, gum poles etc, it makes a gr8 protection agent for wood.....
Just paint it on thick so it soaks into the wood and do it min once a year, the wood lasts longer than varnish or creosote.....

Ja you can maybe do that in JHB, but here in the Cape of Storms we can't. One day after you have painted that fence it will look like someone threw a can of sand over it.
I usually keep my old empty oil cans and when I have drained the old oil I take it to the dump. They have specially demarcated areas for used oil and the Rose Foundation collects from them.
The workshop idea is also good, I never thought of that. Only challenge is finding an open workshop on a Saturday afternoon ...
If you still have blank pages in your passport, it's probably time for a road trip.
