we will start the trail at approx 0900 hours, otherwise its a pretty laid back event.. just the trail can be about 5 hours depending on how many recoveries we have to do on second section of the trail !!!

I'll be there between 09h00 and 10h00 on Saturday morning. Looks like a chillie weekend, 18 degrees for Saturday with 2-3 mm rain in the morning and below 10 at night. Sunday it will be a sunny 16.
See you all at the camp.

Ek kom Saterdagoggend hopelik so 08:00. My vrou en kinders het kop uitgetrek want hulle moet grade by die karate, wat 'n jammerte is, maar ek bring Groot Piet saam in hulle plek. Hy ry 'n ere-Hilux, 'n 60 series Cruiser met roes. Dis nou as Stubs sê dis reg dat ek maatjies kan bring.

We have to pay Danie today. We cannot expect him to slaughter a sheep for us if we will in the end not be enough for the spit. So we have to pay him so that he knows he does not slaughter it unnecessary. So those who have not paid yet please do so today.

Hallo boys and girls
Two things.
One. People driving via worchester - wolsely. There are a lot of roadworks and stop and goes starting at worchester going through wolsely all the way to just before Gouda. Just thought I'd let you know.
And two. Everyone. Whn you get on the dirt road for sceppie saus, it's lekker "sinkplaaterig", so you can deflate your tires just a bit to make it more comfortable if you'd like.
See you guys soon!!!

Hi all
Thanks again to all for a great weekend!
Thanks to Stubs for organising everything
Thanks to 4x4direct (Pieter) and WegRy (Ali) for sponsoring the prizes
And thanks Hoppy for the tow If it was up to Stubs, I would still be there
Here's one quick photo so far:
PS. Stubs didn't get the convoy lost and wasn't busy calling the Boer (Danie) to come fetch us. No. We we're having a quick break from the trail and he was using the few minutes he had free to call his gf and tell her how much he missed her

Dis so 220km van die kamp af tot by my huis. N7 langs deur Piketberg is 172km.
Hier is die link na die kampplek wat ek jou van vertel het. Ek gaan daar kamp oor Desember. As jy hou van varswater hengel, dan is dit die plek. http://www.kampsa.co.za/riverhouse" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Western Cape 2012 year GTG - Scheppie Saus 4x4 - 24/25 N
A BIG thanx to each and every one of you who made this a memorable weekend. It was so nice to experience the warm Hilux spirit we got used to over the years.
Thanx to Stubs for arranging, Val for the surprise packs for the kids and everybody else who helped with the arrangements.
Also a special welcome to the new faces, Adrian and Duiwel, it was nice to see some new faces and I hope we will see you again.
Here are some pics:
Trail Briefing
Stubs very busy explaining
After the trail we all got together to kuier around the fire.
The faces you can see below is from left to right Sidekick, Alti and Steve (Zepplin)
The spit was one of the main attraction and you can see that some of us kept a watchful eye over the spit.
We had a lucky draw and Stubs got the kids to draw the tickets and pic the prize
Below is our Aunty Val and AdrianZ
Ulger's (Duiwel) son had a bite of his Fizer and I guess it was not the taste he expected.
This is Boetie's little daughter and she had a little conversation going with Ulger's son above.
More people watching the spit in anticipation, the small guy in black is Boetie (Truckin)
Below is Sidekick and Hoppy's son, Werner
And then the lamb caught fire. There were many worried and uncertain faces, but hey, this Oom knows how to do a spit. Was one of the best I ever had.
On the right is Gideon, his wife, one of his daughters and Ulger's son.
This morning Mr Bull and Wynand spoiled some of us with a breakie (with thick and thin sausages)
Below from left to right is Wynand (Shimano), Mr Bull (Stubs), Steve (Zepplin) and Steve's maatjie (say no more)
I took a doggy bag on Saturday evening at the spit. When we got home, first thing I did was give each of our vicious guard dogs a bone to absorb.
Here is Lulu in action

Re: Western Cape 2012 year GTG - Scheppie Saus 4x4 - 24/25 N
After the trail, that went off with no glitches, a few of us went looking for "trouble", but couldn't find any.
After a wet Friday night and saturday, were greeted at the campsite by a promise of no rain and so it was, the spit was out of this world and so was the company, we left the lapa in the early hours!
Thanks again folks!
PS; A few tips i picked up the weekend;
no 1; Don't use a Hilux to anchor your tent
no 2; Don't lift your foot off the gas in a mudhole
no 3; Don't drink the trail owner's home brew
no 4; Let your son drive, he does a better job
no 5; Don't stay home or think of any excuse not to attend the next Hilux club event!!!!!

Allan, that's an awesome rainbow pic, especially with the sun shining through a gap in the clouds like that!

Re: Western Cape 2012 year GTG - Scheppie Saus 4x4 - 24/25 N
Wow, thanks to everyone of you that attended for making it such an awesome weekend. Danie from Scheppie sous, thank you for going way passed the extra mile to make it the memorable weekend it is, specially for leaving your dog behind that landed up sleeping in my tent... Stu star, thanks for your hardwork in putting the weekend together. To all the guys that joined us for the first time, Adriaan, Duiwel and family, Cheetah and family, and Ali's friend and family, so happy that you could make it, and hope to see you at some more events. To the regulars, who are all really great friends by now, have'nt laughed so much in a while, thanks so much. Just want to pass on to you that Danie pointed out that the Hilux club is the first group of the many he has had at Scheppie's, that has everybody 'kuiering' together around the same camp fire, and not sitting is seperate little groups at different campsites. Thanks all of you for making us that special. I had about 6 attempts at that mudgat. I was the last to get there, so it was pretty churned up, and my many attempts did'nt improve it either.. but eventually made it through, to a very supportive welcoming crowd.. Think you willed my through it.. Of course the witblitz 'strafdop' that evening went down like hot coals... but was quite tasty when I got my breathe back...
Looking forward to getting together with this great Hilux group in the New Year...
Sorry as is normally the case, no chance for photo's, to busy 'kuiering'....or driving.

Any volunteers to clean my hilux, think I brought home half the trail on my truck... I know my car wash is going to turn me away when I arrive there this morning, or charge me double....

Have a look at this thread and especially the second column right at the bottom.. I think this will prove that not only Land Rover drivers use that excuse...

Good one Thys! You should have been there.
After 5 attempts the owner said the pit is to churned up, she must turn around, but she gave it another try and made it, she even Danie cheered as she made it, Hilux drivers never give up!

What an awesome weekend! Thanks to Stubs and Val for organizing everything. Thanks also to Alan and Werner who helped to make the weekend so much more memorable for the kids.
We set the alarm for 4AM on Saturday morning and only left at about half past six. We arrived at Scheppie Saus after ten and was met by Danie on our way to the camp site.
Here are some pictures my son took.

Thanks Anton for the photo's and the very precise directions to Scheppies... Quite a few people missed turnoffs and got a bit lost... happy you and your family joined us for the weekend, hope to see you all at many more GTG's
