Stuck drain plug

Hi I've been replacing all the lubricant in my bakkie as part of its service. I've gotten stuck (literally) with the drain plug on the rear diff. I cannot get it to move, not one little bit. All the others have loosened with some persuasion (big spanner ;-) ) and penetrating lubricant, except that o...

Re: Ants - Ants - Ants!!!!!!

My grandfather, a mechanical engineer loved building things in his spare time, came up the ultimate ant trap. It consisted of a 5L galvanized paint/oil tin with the lid removed. Inside the tin he mounted a shaft sticking up from the center of the bottom. On top of the shaft was a small triangular pl...

Re: Accident - how strong is the Hilux?

Very nasty A friend of mine wrote off his mom's Merc on that sharp hairpin, a truck had broken down just out of sight around the corner in the innermost lane. He didn't see it until just before he hit it. No warning triangle or anything deployed. Those overhead signs weren't there yet (~8 years ago)...

Hi You would be amazed by the incredible numbers of people who head up Platteklip with no food, water, hats or sunscreen and in plakkies or other totally useless footwear. Thus far this year we have rescued about 5 or 6 people overcome with heat stroke/dehydration just in Platteklip. If you are look...

Re: Replacing the harness

Busy checking the earth connections as I go along. I believe the reason that I may be having issues with the lights is because the previous owner(s?) at some point wired the park light relay into the indicator circuit  which may be part of the problem. No I have no idea why they did this....

Hi there My bakkie was the victim of some affirmative shopping recently and they took the radio/cd player. I want to replace it but I'm not a big fan of the "removable face" style of radio (It is always such a pain to deal with, where do you put it? Unless you have a man-bag... ) SO ...

Correct battery for a '97 Hilux

Hi I took my battery in to be replaced today because it was really old and tired. I had a 635 in it, when I got to the motor spares place the sales assistant and I checked in the catalog to make sure about which battery to replace it with. Apparently it should be a 646. So I bought a 646. When I got...

4Y to diesel or something else

Hi there This is my first post on this forum, so please excuse any noob mistakes... I've found a great deal on a 1990 2.2 4Y 4x4 Hilux, but from what I can gather the 4Y is really thirsty and doesn't really have enough power. So my question is: Would it be a good idea to replace the 4Y with another ...
