Evetually got to the bottom of my bakkie's excesive oil use - rings need replacing and a cracked piston the dealer is sorting out for me.

Fortunatly no sign of oil in the coolant. Thanks for all the inputs.

I took the vehicle to the AA and they told me that the turbo shaft is leaking the oil and it could also be blowing it into the motor and burning it. The dealer reckons that is not possible.

I contaced the dealer and the service manager tells me that Toyota SA put out a spec sheet stating that one pint per 1000km is not excesive oil consumption.
Any thoughts on that?
