From passarge to khutse is easily a two day drive - In 2010 it took us more than 6 hours to get from Passarge to Xade (180km)......

The panel recieved about 8hrs sunlight and was not moved during the day. Fridge was a 40l Engel and the battery was a 102 ah high cycle :)

Also, Kolmanskop I think closes at 14:00 so important to check and plan accordingly. We saw a lot of wild horses at the view point the morning but only one that afternoon :)

Chris, will test the setup on the Prado this weekend and if she survives I'm sure the Hilux will be fine

Op die Hilux het ek 'n 55watt paneel (permanent op RR) en 'n goedkoop Steca regulator gehad en dit het baie goed gewerk - Nooit issues gehad nie en ook nooit die yskas afgeskakel nie... Hoekom wil jy die alternator ook deur die regulator hardloop? Verstaan hoe die CTek DC to DC charger werk maar eis...

Found some interesting info on the web - One needs to look at the short circuit current, which is higher than the output of the panel, and ensure that the solar regulator is sized to handle 125% of the solar panel's rated short circuit current. Post a pic ot two - Bump stops still in place? Someone mentioned that you could extend the bump stops to limit the upward travel so if it is not much that sounds like a good option.

Hi Val, agree, there is the risk of lower numbers on outings but I gues it's how you do it. We had a quick session before the trail (Thanks Cassie) and it took less than 5 minutes and I beleive it is much more powerfull than something you have to read and sign - Maybe just me... I guess one needs to...

Some suggestions... Convoy rule - If you can't see the guy behind you stop. Max 3 attempts per obstacle if there is an escape route... Yip, sounds like an ASD - Anti Siphoning Device.... Did you buy new as these are usually fitted to fleet vehicles?
Also, what diesel are you using - Some add anti-foaming additives to reduce foaming which speeds up refuelling...

Hey Kenneth, agree with Cassie - Go VHF as the guy's in Gauteng all use them...
The group I usually join on Overland trips only use 29's - which if setup correctly works well but not nearly as good as VHF....

My Steca disconnected as soon as it picked up the charge from the alti... Still best to mount it on the rack where it can work when parked.
